Speedcomposites Sinus

Light wheelsets for road bikes exist a dime a dozen. But not all of them can combine all attributes of a really good wheelset, meaning an optimal ratio between lightness and stiffness. The most noted wheels in this category, like the Hyperon of Campagnolo, Zipp´s 202 or the Lightweight Ventoux also have a common disadvantage – the price.
A small company in the Netherlands now wants to prove the opposite, by offering a similar light wheelset for a price, which is significant lower than the prices for the already named wheels. The company we are talking about is Van Beurden Techniek and their main product – the Speedcomposites Sinus – were up to now a real insider tip in the Low Countries cyclocross scene. The wheels are based on a low profile ( 25mm ) full carbon rim with a weight of approx. 250g. The hubs are milled out of full aluminium ( FH 81g RH 201g ) and can be equipped with 20 or 24 Sapim Laser or CX Ray spokes respectively. These are built in radial at the front and two times crossed on the nonedriveside at the rear.
That the manufacturer is really confident with the product, shows the fact, that the wheelset is used by many dutch and belgian cyclocross riders in tournament, which overqualifies the set for the usage on normal streets. Research & Development as also the manufacturing all take place exclusive in Tilburg – according to the owner the main reason for constant high quality. Another argument to have a closer look on this wheelset is the price for sure. The person who wants to own a set has to invest 1139€ for the type with Sapim Laser spokes. For 1198€ the wheels will be equipped with CX-Ray Spokes, custom decals or different spoke counts are also possible. With a total system weight of approx. 1038g the wheels so can surely be considered as a bargain buy compared to the main “competitors”.
At the moment we are testing the wheels and the first ride impressions are exceptional. The set offers fast reaction, great stiffness & high acceleration. In a couple of weeks we will add a detailed ride report on this site, so stay tuned.
