RACING ZERO: BLACK & RED
Fulcrum presents a new colour version, black & red, for the top wheel in its aluminium range, Racing Zero.
Fulcrum is offering an additional colour version for the Racing Zero wheel in the 2008 range: Black & Red. The Fulcrum Racing Zero was born to be a star. It is made using the finest materials and technical solutions to combine high performance with extremely low weight. It is no coincidence that Fulcrum chose its institutional colour, red, for this wheel in its first year on the market. The wheel was designed to be immediately recognizable and transmit the competitive spirit that distinguishes all Fulcrum’s output. The choice couldn’t have been nearer the mark as shown by the success achieved in 2007.
Now that the Racing Zero is famous for its special features, Fulcrum had decided to introduce a new chromatic version, Black & Red, which is easier to match with different frame colours. Black for the rim and hubs and Red for the spokes.
The choice of the two colours recalls the most famous literary work by Stendhal, The Red and the Black, in which the young Julien Sorel, at the height of the Restoration, only had two routes for establishing himself socially: the priest’s cassock (black) or the military uniform (red). It is difficult to bring these two paths together into a good end-result, but Fulcrum seems to have succeeded.
Racing Zero wheels are positioned at the top of the Fulcrum aluminium range. The rims with a height of 26 mm are manufactured using a special extrusion process which considerably reduces the thickness of the walls without compromising strength. Further lightening has been carried out between the spoke anchoring points ? where there are no stresses ? thanks to the exclusive Fulcrum triple milling feature. The top bridge has no holes, and this translates into higher torsional rigidity and vertical elasticity for the wheel. The spokes ? 16 on the front wheel and 21 on the rear ? are in aluminium with a variable-section aerodynamic profile and are tensioned by special Ergal nipples. The rear spoking is realized by doubling the spokes on the right, with Fulcrum’s special 2:1 spoking configuration, in order to obtain more effective transmission of the drive torque and more appropriate distribution of the wheel stresses. The front wheel spoking, on the other hand, is radial in order to obtain better aerodynamic penetration.
Hubs are oversized with aluminium body and axle and with adjustable high-precision bearings.
Like the entire Fulcrum range, Racing Zero wheels incorporate the patented Dynamic Balance system: the wheel’s rotational dynamics are balanced thanks to the astute distribution of the peripheral masses, counterbalancing the joint section with a special rim design.
RacingZero Black & Red wheels are available only in clincher type and are compatible with Campagnolo, Shimano and Sram drivetrains.
Weight of the pair: 1,465 grams.
